Biography

Abraham Charel was born in Aberdeen in the Cape Colony in 1831; he was the son of Dirk Pieter van den Berg and Elizabeth (Naude) van den Berg.

He was 21 years old when he married 20-year-old Rachel Maria Jacoba Theron in the Dutch Reformed Church in Graaff Reinet on 19 July 1852.[1]

Rachel died in 1854 and the 27-year-old widower then married 17-year-old Susarah Gertruida Blom in the Graaff Reinet Dutch Reformed Church on 30 August 1858.[2]

Abraham was 85 years old and living at Koppiesdam when he passed away at 66 George Street in Kimberley on 29 October 1916.[3][4]
